Why (And How) I Write

I write the same way I move my bowels. Because I have to, and for very similar reasons. Things build up and have to be eliminated. It's just Nature.

I am not regular. Sometimes things get slow. I get literary constipation from time to time, but when The Muse hits me with a laxative, life is good.

Of course, life is still bad. Writing makes life good because life is bad. It transforms shit into shinola. That is what art does, at least when it's real.

"I" never really write or speak anything but crap. Only Nature speaks/writes decently, through me, when I am fortunate enough to be in touch with it.

I myself am an egotist, a basket case, and a boring prick. "I" am not a good writer; "my" skills are weak. Happily "I myself" do not actually exist. :)

  1. Hello "actual sanity." Don't be alarmed, I'm not here to bash everything your saying and be hateful and ignorant. I am here to RESPECTFULLY disagree with (or comment on) your original letter. Because I have read your letter through and through, i think i deserve the same treatment.
First off, I understand you notice something is wrong with the world. Everyone with eyes and ears could notice that. The difference between you and everyone else is that you think EVERYTHING in the world is a problem. Not so. Contrary to your belief, good people have, do , and will continue to exist. Just because they may or may not belong to a corrupt society doesn't mean they themselves are corrupt because they haven't read your letter. Everyone, be they religious or not, have a sense of common morality instilled in them at an early age, naturally or not. Granted, there are some people in he world who do not have a conscience, but that doesn't mean we can't at least try to keep them from the general public. A bad example would be Mark David Chapman. Worse examples would be Stalin and Hitler. However, we live in a better era where the TRULY insane can be dismantled and taken away.
Secondly, not everyone is insane!! Sparks of insanity are found in almost everyone. Thats not called a mental disease, thats called human nature. You clearly don't understand the gaping difference between stealing a stick of gum, drinking underage, and buying pirated movies, and psychopaths going on murderous rampages. The former is an example of small indecencies in society that may never change, the latter is a terrible defect that causes distrust and violence throughout civilizations today. From what your letter sounded like, you can't tell the difference between the two.
Thirdly, not all government and religious organizations are trying to corrupt us and dismantle our society. There are people of power who exist and hold positions for the sole purpose of... (wait for it...) FURTHERING SOCIETY!! :D That's right, some governments and religious organizations, how hard it may be to believe, actually WANT good things to happen. I understand things such as the Wall Street scandals and pedophile priests are bad examples in recent history. But there can be something said in the church and Wall Streets defense. Obviously the nature of some priests should have been immediately taken care of and corrected, and i am in no way condoning the church's way of handling the issue, but the church was only trying to preserve its image so the message of Jesus could be spread and with just as much haste. The church should be ashamed of themselves for not taking immediate action, but their nature was intact. Wall Street was similar. A corrupt few were making more money while others lost there jobs. I think if the subject wasn't as well kept during that period justice would've been served sooner. In any case, justice has and will continue to be served now that the subject has been given light.

  2. Hi, Mr. Pseudo,

I disagree almost entirely with everything you have mentioned, above, but I would like you to know that I love you.

I hope you continue to read Sanity's letter 'through and through', and that one day, you will finally read the message, too.

    Good luck.

  3. You think the way I think.

What are the odds of me stumbling on your letter which contains my almost exact mindset?

    Society is a nightmare.

What else is there left to do but to love and to try and help the rest see that love is all we need?

  4. Hi Mr. Faye,

I'm sry, my entire comment couldn't be posted for some reason but i'm still working on that.

Back to what you were saying about my rebuttal, clearly this Actual Sanity person has a faithful, cult-esque following which i can respect but don't necessarily agree with. This is because, i shall explain myself again, he has not necessarily seperated himself from the angry politicians and activists he clearly does not care for, but has in some way become one of them. He is an example of something i despise, though i know his intentions are good, so i can't necessarily be mad at him. He is an example of someone who explains that the world is a fucked up place. I know. We all know. Its not too hard to figure out. One thing i do like about Actual Sanity is that he held to the belief "you can't change the world until you change yourself," a statement i personally love but was appearantly not taken care of too creatively by you-know-who. His advice stems from some of the most common words of encouragement to general philosophical self-help sayings known to most of the world. In other words, nothing is truly original.
It should also be mentioned that though i do not agree with Mr. Sanity, i can identify with him. He has "studied" the human condition rigorously for 15 years. I too have dealt with problems in my mind without sharing them for periods of time, but never for YEARS! Plus, when i do reach a conclusion to the problems i have gone over in my mind, i always realize had i shared the problem with someone, maybe problems wouldntve occurred considering everyone needs a differing opinion to critique someone elses.
Also, another thing that truly bothers me is that if EVERYONE is crazy, has some "disease" of sorts, except for this ONE person, who isolated himself from understanding the human condition and only wrote of what he thinks to have thought he had observed, why should we believe him? He doesn't seem to be in the greatest state of mind and never quite pinpoints why we (the 6 BILLION people who exist being "we") are insane. Quite honestly, and bear with me on this one, it seems HE is the insane one. If everyone is insane by one persons standards and declares himself the only sane person, doesn't that mean majority rules and WE are the sane people and HE has too much free time to write a novel about us being crazy, meanwhile he dedicates 15 years to "observing" humans without taking any time out of his clearly busy schedule to research Freud or Jung? I rest my case...

As for you Mr. Faye, because Actual Sanity clearly doesn't want to talk to me personally, i will continue to argue points of Mr. Sanity's letter, and maybe we'll all come out of it with a new understanding. To quote Voltaire: "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

    Much love,
    JH

  5. **I finally found the second half of my original argument!

And finally, when you weren't repeating how we're insane, your not, and society is evil, the valid points were just reiterated words of encouragement from self help common knowledge and religion (i.e. "Love your neighbor as yourself").
Clearly, the 15 years you spent coming to conclusions (and i mean this with no disrespect) furthered you from human understanding and true human nature. It would have probably mattered whether or not you had a degree because then you might have known a thing or two about the human condition and the mind. I myself have argued with problems for periods of time on a particular topic. NEVER 15 years long, and i guess this is the effect. I am sixteen years old. I do not have a degree but i try to research what I can and hope to be a psychiatrist some day, so i can be qualified to make conclusions more cleverly proposed than the one you came to. My only hope is that you don't play this off as being insane in your twisted understanding of what true insanity is. The problem with your assessment is you have lumped together humanity and the human condition, society and religion, into one diagnosis: insanity. If you have watched Donnie Darko (and if you haven't, please do so) you could get a simpler version of my rebuttal from the scene where Donnie confronts his teacher.
My e-mail address is jhpseudo@aol.com. E-mail me if you have a counter-rebuttal, or if you've watched Donnie Darko.
    Your fellow "insane" human,
    JH :)
